What you can do in spring

Go Wild in Ashleworth

April update

Thanks to those who have expressed support for this project and we hope more people will join in and help us improve habitats for wildlife in our community.

Email: ashlewild@outlook.com to stay in touch and find out more or if you can help or have any ideas.

We had a site meeting with Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust where we walked round the village looking at potential sites for wildlife improvement. They have offered us some planning and project management advice.

Frank has made 25 Bird boxes of various sizes from recycled wood. These have distributed around the village, we hope they will soon have nesting residents, which will mean we have made a difference already.

Wildflower seed and cowslip plugs are ready for transplanting in selected sites (to be decided)

Three things to do this month to help wildlife:

· If you have room put a bit of corrugated iron or old roof felt down on the grass: it will give slow worms and grass snakes somewhere to hide!

· Bees, wasps, hoverflies and butterflies will all be swinging into action soon, so plant a nectar-rich patch with bee friendly plants to give them a helping hand

· As well as putting out bird food and water, why not make a bee hotel to attract insect visitors?

Ashleworth Parish Council met recently and were in favour of the project and will be offering us some support.
